Pure Water Soquel project work continues in the City of Santa Cruz. On Thursday, Oct. 5, the southern half of the Laurel Street/Chestnut Street intersection will be closed for paving. The entire intersection will be closed that night for final paving from 7 p.m. until Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 a.m. Detours will be in place.
- At Laurel Street and Walti final fittings and adjustments are being made to the conveyance pipeline. This work continues through Friday, Oct. 6.
- On the Laurel Street Bridge, architectural cover work is starting.
- Laurel Street paving begins on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from east of the Laurel St Bridge to San Lorenzo Boulevard.
Also, the Broadway/Seabright intersection will be partially closed for repaving on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
At Soquel Avenue, crews are working between Park Way and Carl Avenue on the conveyance line weekdays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. This work will extend towards Highway 1 as the week progresses.
The public is advised to anticipate traffic delays while traveling in these areas.

This Soquel Creek Water District project will provide a reliable supplemental water supply for the community and prevent seawater from contaminating groundwater. It includes the installation of about eight miles of pipeline under various streets between Santa Cruz and Aptos. These pipelines will carry recycled water from the regional Santa Cruz Wastewater Treatment Facility to the upcoming Chanticleer Water Purification Center in the Live Oak area; and, will carry purified water from the new Center to three Seawater Intrusion Prevention (SWIP) wells where it will be pumped into the groundwater basin.
