Santa Cruz County Bank Arts Collaborative Presents

California Dreaming

When you think of California, what images come to mind? Opening February 20th, five local contemporary JohnCrawford_Fall6_48x48_oil on canvas-2painters explore new frontiers of expression in California Dreaming in answer to that question. This large format exhibition offers a broad perspective of the mesmerizing beauty of the central coast.

Inspired by the dynamic landscape of California and its scenic coastline, artist John Crawford states, “The extreme diversity of northern California’s landscape, seascape and skyscape create the opportunity to explore our own emotions and interpretations. Taking a brush to canvas is always a beginning. The start of the day, sunrise to sunset, and everything in between, the unknown and the unexpected, provide stimulation for spontaneous responses as the images unfold.”

Curated by Joan Blackmer, California Dreaming will be shown at all five Santa Cruz County Bank branches through August 7, 2015. The exhibit includes 55 works by artists John Crawford, John Maxon, Michael Mote, Charles Prentiss and Margaret Rinkovsky.

Director of the Santa Cruz County Bank Arts Collaborative, Mary Anne Carson, describes the work in California Dreaming, “In response to the stunning allure of our amazing Golden State, each artist, whether painting by memory or in plein air, has captured spirituality on canvas.”
