RotaCare_group-photo RotaCare Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comSanta Cruz RotaCare Free Clinic began its “year of celebration of its 20th year as an all volunteer free medical clinic” on Sunday, August 9 at the beautiful home and garden of Laura Grinder and Terry Umstead.

Local Volunteers were treated to a barbeque dinner hosted by volunteer Rotarians in thanks for the volunteer’s weekly work at the Elena Baskin Live Oak Senior Center.

The Santa Cruz RotaCare free Clinic was Co-Founded by John Fisher, Past District Governor of Rotary District 5170 and Dr Mark Campbell. In partnership with Dignity Health Dominican Hospital of Santa Cruz, the door opened on October 5, 1995 under the medical direction of Dr. John Mahaney.

Santa Cruz RotaCare Free Medical Clinic is all volunteer driven under the Medical Direction of Dr Satish Chandra and Ronald P Sekkel, Site Administrator who said, “Every Tuesday evening, except for holidays, at 5:00 PM for the last 20 years … 20 volunteers transform the quiet Elena Baskin Live Oak Senior Center into an active pulsating RotaCare Free Medical Clinic with the purpose of serving uninsured and underinsured adults. Thank you all for what you do for this community.”

The celebration was a tribute to the volunteers who run the Clinic. Dr. Satish Chandra, a volunteer himself, is the Medical Director of the Clinic. He stated “Without all of you, our volunteers, we could not deliver the needed medical care to this underserved population.”
