Save Our Shores Offers Sanctuary Stewards Training November 13th

Save Our Shores offers Sanctuary Stewards training on Nov. 13

Participants will learn how to lead beach cleanups and other outreach events

Santa Cruz, CA – Save Our Shores (SOS), the leader in ocean awareness, advocacy and action on the Central Coast, invites the community to attend its next two-day Sanctuary Stewards Crash Course, beginning on Nov. 13.

The Sanctuary Stewards Program prepares community members of all backgrounds to become educators, advocates, and experts on issues affecting the Monterey Bay and work toward local pollution prevention. Each Steward makes a personal pledge to volunteer 50 hours their first year in the program, doing everything from hosting beach cleanups to leading educational presentations and representing SOS at other outreach events.

From 5:30-9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, there will be an in-house training at the SOS office, during which staff will go over the history of the nonprofit, how to lead a cleanup, and what it means to be a Sanctuary Steward. Refreshments will be provided. After the in-house training, participants must attend the cleanup at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at Cowell/Main Beach.

“Without our Stewards and support from the community, Save Our Shores would not be what it is today,” said Marina Maze, SOS program coordinator. “It’s amazing how much a committed group of ocean lovers can accomplish when they come together.”

To RSVP, contact Marina at (831) 462-5660 Ex. 2 or marina@saveourshores.org.
