Get Pampered in Luxury

By Maggie Caldwell

Massage therapist Carol Marting and esthetician Julie Lewis have created an oasis of pampering at Scotts Valley Spa & Boutique. Their large space is warm, clean, and inviting, with plush chairs and treatment tables for your comfort. They’ve created a menu of unique treatments and options that are designed to be flexible enough to adapt to the varied needs of the community. And their focus on quality products including an organic body care line, and comfortable atmosphere help support natural beauty and good health.

A Glowing Body

ScottsValleySpa_Heart-Pillow Scotts Valley Spa Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comExfoliate, detoxify, and moisturize your skin through one of the signature body scrub and polish treatments. Warmed sugar or salt blended with organic, hydrating oils work their magic while the Vichy shower helps relax your muscles. Or you may choose some deeper muscle work through massage therapy. One of the more popular treatments at Scotts Valley Spa & Boutique is the hard-to-find Thaiyurveda Massage. “It integrates the stretching aspects of traditional Thai massage with healing herbs used in Ayurveda,” explains Carol. She uses warm compresses of aromatic herbs like eucalyptus, lavender, and sage to increase muscle relaxation and decrease soreness. Choose the perfect type of massage to meet your body’s needs: Warm Bamboo Fusion, traditional Shiatsu, deep tissue, and pregnancy massages can all be customized with or without aromatherapy oils for ultimate relaxation and healing.

It’s said the face is the mirror of the soul, so treat it well with a customized facial. Whether you need a Quick Fix, Therapeutic facial, or a classic European Spa Facial, one of the experienced estheticians will analyze your skin and help determine what treatment will most benefit your skin. They also offer microdermabrasion, micro-current facial toning, back facials, and a complete selection of waxing services. There’s even a shower available for use before or after spa treatments. “Some clients come straight from the gym, and some don’t want to leave feeling oily,” explains Carol, “so we have a shower they can use.”

Pamper Your Hands and Feet

The high-quality manicures and pedicures at Scotts Valley Spa are safe and detail-oriented. “We do natural nails only; no acrylics,” said Julie. “It was good to get rid of the smell and dust for health reasons. We use high quality products and pay attention to detail; we take the time to do your nails just right.” Pedicures last about a month; manicures vary depending on the type of polish you choose: standard, UV cured gel, or Shellac. A very popular add-on is the Eco-Fin treatment for the hands and feet; it’s a luxurious moisturizing treatment that’s especially great for the cuticles. “All the ingredients in the treatments are biodegradable. Traditionally paraffin was used; we use emollients that aren’t petroleum-based, like shea butter. Plus, the mitt liners themselves are made of corn and are easily biodegradable,” Carol explains. “Our new nail tech loves to do nail art,” adds Julie. You can get designs, decals, or rhinestones to complement any mood, event, or outfit you’ve got planned.

Carol and Julie had worked together for several years before becoming business partners. “We make a good team; we each have our own focus, which creates a good synergy,” Carol explains. “Our services are always evolving.” For example, teeth whitening and sunless spray tanning are two specialty services they introduced to meet customers’ needs, and brand-new in 2015: eyelash extensions. “We’re also offering permanent make-up in the near future,” she says.

They also love to host parties. “We often have small groups of friends or family members, usually to celebrate birthdays or weddings,” Julie says. With their wide array of services, the spa can accommodate a number of clients at once, and guests can relax with warm tea on comfortable couches in the communal quiet area between treatments.

Skin Care and Boutique Products

We carry a few unique lines of skin care products covering all needs from acne to aging,” Julie points out. These lines include Cosmedix, Glo Minerals and Glo Therapeutics, Jan Marini, Hempz, and RevitaLash. The boutique carries as a variety of jewelry made by area artists as well as locally made Hip E Chick organic body care products. “DreamTime pillows are also a popular seller,” says Carol. The pillows are filled with herbs and flax seeds and can be heated or cooled to help with relaxation or healing, especially at home after a treatment.

For Valentine’s Day, Scotts Valley Spa has a heart-shaped DreamTime pillow for you to give your sweetheart along with a gift certificate from Scotts Valley Spa & Boutique. Carol and Julie “always recommend you get a gift certificate instead of a surprise appointment. That way she can choose the treatment she’d like best at a time that works best for her.”
