Sign-up Now to Host Garage Sale at Annual Santa Cruz Event

SANTA CRUZ – The City of Santa Cruz Public Works Department welcomes residents to Trula Hickman Annual Garage Sale Weekendjoin the 15th annual Garage Sale Weekend, Oct. 4-5, by hosting a sale. The popular event is organized each fall to promote local reuse, repair and resale opportunities. This year participants may register online to be included as part of the Garage Sale Treasure Map.

Bargain hunters may use the treasure map to locate the various sales and also search for specific items. This online feature (which is smartphone and tablet compatible) will also help shoppers map the best route to the sales that interest them thereby saving time and gas.  In 2013 there were 85 garage sales to choose from; even more are expected this year.

Santa Cruz residents are encouraged to consider reselling toys and clothes that may be outgrown or outdated and turning unused items like dishes, record albums and kitchen gadgets into cash.

Garage sale kits are available at no charge. The kits contain signs, labels and a “Great Tips” booklet. For a free garage sale kit, please call (831) 420-5160.

Garage sale hosts may expect many shoppers as the City will promote the event including advertisements in major local media.

The 15-year success of the annual Santa Cruz Garage Sale Weekend underscores that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure while helping to keep the community green.
