SqCWD Unveils Two New Videos

Overviews of Community Water Plan, Proposed Pure Water Soquel Project

SqCWD Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comAt the November 7, 2017, Board of Directors’ meeting, the District unveiled two new educational/public outreach videos. These videos, along with other public outreach elements, will help community members gain a better understanding of the critical overdraft and seawater intrusion issues the local groundwater basin is facing — the area’s sole source of drinking water.

“The Community Water Plan” video presents viewers with an overview of one of the District’s key planning documents, which is a “roadmap” for sustaining the local groundwater basin for today and into the future. It informs people about the multi-faceted approach the District is taking in addressing the groundwater shortage — water conservation, groundwater management, and new water supplies.

The “Pure Water Soquel Project” video focuses on one of the possible new water supply options — purified water for replenishing the groundwater basin.

Viewers are given a look at how the District could build a new advanced water purification facility to bring recycled water up to drinking water standards, and then use it to recharge and raise the level of the depleted groundwater basin, helping prevent seawater intrusion and ensuring the basin’s long-term sustainability.

“The purpose of these two short videos is to clearly communicate the key components of our Community Water Plan and the Pure Water Soquel project that we are in the process of evaluation. I hope our community will find them informative and enlightening,” said Soquel Creek Water District Board President Dr. Tom LaHue. “Our groundwater basin is critically overdrafted. These videos, along with lots of other information on our website, will help people understand the magnitude of the challenge, and highlight what the District is doing to solve the problem.”
