Step Right Up: Jubilation and Big Top Fun!

Thirty-Fourth Annual Human Race Walkathon and Fun Run

StepRightUp_ApproachingFinish Human Race Walkathon Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comThe Human Race Walkathon and Fun Run is set to kick off on Saturday May 10. This event, which annually mobilizes over 10,000 individuals raising funds for their favorite community has been a Santa Cruz County mainstay for 34 years. It is the largest collaborative fundraiser on the Central Coast benefiting nearly 120 local organizations, schools and community groups. In just the last five years event proceeds have raised nearly one million dollars for local services.

Many community members and organizations return each year in support of this event as the Human Race Walkathon and Fun Run provides the annual opportunity to connect with friends and colleagues from the non-profit community and the community at large.

“The race not only serves as a homecoming for many but has a truly eclectic Santa Cruz feel where individuals step up from all corners of the community. You name the cause and there is someone walking for it at the Human Race, “ said Volunteer Center Human Race Coordinator Kelly Mercer.

Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County staff and volunteers who organize the annual event expect this to be their best year yet.

“We’ve always strived to make the Human Race event about bringing the community together in a joyous fashion to raise needed funds for local organizations, but this year we have really stepped up our game”, states Mercer.

Building upon this year’s theme “Step Right Up” Race organizers plan to transform race day into an arts and entertainment extravaganza of big top fun.

“Not only can you expect the usual features of a people’s parade of lively costumes and banners, free food, and music along the course,” said Mercer, “but we will also have aerial performers, jugglers, clowns, fortune tellers, featured musicians, and carnival games ready to entertain all who join us at the finish line.”

Whether you plan to journey along West Cliff Drive at a walk, run, or just stroll your way along the course looking at the view, everyone is welcome to join the after-party.

Race day will provide Human Race t-shirts to the first 2000 participants that contribute $35 or more. There will also be marvelous prizes for the costume contest.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to join their neighbors in this family friendly, fun event. Crowd friendly dogs on a leash are welcome as well.
