“Personal training isn’t just for the fit and athletic, it’s about personal improvement.” – Sue Smythe

With summer approaching, have you once again visited your vision for a healthier you? Sue Smythe Fitness offers a clean, positive and caring environment with a variety of physical training opportunities. It is designed for those who desire the overall health benefits necessary in living out the life they always dreamed of having – in a body that is capable of enjoying every moment.

Most of us think about getting healthy and talk about how we need to get on track while only a few make the hard-core decision to achieve their goals. However, it’s never too late. As Mark Twain said, “the secret of getting ahead is getting started.” The epiphany to a successful start is realizing we can’t do it alone. That’s where Sue Smythe’s team comes alongside you.

At Sue Smythe Fitness, each member of her team is passionate about what they do. Their concern is how they can assist you in meeting your goals and expectations. They support and encourage their clients’ desire to enhance their overall health and well-being.

Why Sue Smythe Fitness?

Some of Sue Smythe’s clients come to increase their physical strength and stamina. Many come for re

habilitation after aninjury or illness, and then continue after they’ve satisfied their immediate needs. Some clients have come with concerns about their weight and the team has helped them successfully meet and maintain their weight goals. And then there are those who visited Sue Smythe Fitness with the aches and pains associated with getting older. They found a warm and caring environment where they learned that it often wasn’t their age but lack of proper exercise.

That’s why the variety of options at Sue Smythe Fitness studio is so important to their clients. In her cozy studio above Aptos Creek, she has created a close-knit family of caring professionals.

Sue Smythe began her career in the medical field, but found her calling as a Certified Personal Trainer. For over 20 years, she has helped others through their postoperative rehabilitation, developed health strategies for those with MS and Parkinson’s as well as those who have been stricken with or are recovering from other diseases.

Sue is also a Fitness Assessment Trainer and has worked with each of her trainers in developing the philosophies and standards for the center. Initially, each client meets with her for a thorough, free consultation. She then matches that client, taking into account their health history and level of fitness, with a trainer that will best meet the client’s needs and objectives.

Sue Smythe Fitness Staff

Teresa W. Dabir, ACE Certified Personal Trainer, AASDN Nutrition Specialist, specializes in working with men and women over 50. She believes that what makes the family at Sue Smythe’s so special, are the services provided in addition to exercise, such as Nutrition and weight loss counseling, chiropractic therapy and massage therapy.

Sandy Koslowski, Certified Personal and Group Fitness Trainer, has worked with Sue for two years. She specializes in Pre and Post Natal exercises and sports nutrition. “ I think what makes Sue’s Studio unique is the completely personal experience. Every session is one on one.”

Cessy Medcalf, ACE Certified Personal Trainer and Nutritional Counselor, has worked with Sue over the years developing challenging workouts for clients who benefit from her enthusiasm and attitude.

Dr. Deena Riggins, a Family Chiropractor who has had her own practice for the past ten years joined the Smythe family in October of last year. Her compassionate contribution is beneficial to numerous clients. “When they begin their session with the trainer after being adjusted, they get more out of their workout with less chance for injuries.”

Dr. Riggins stated that she finds each client’s progress likened to an onion. “We un-peel the obvious layer of discomfort only to discover another layer that has been hindering them longer. That’s where adjustments are so beneficial as we peel away each layer.”

Kelly Girard, Certified Massage Therapist and Registered Nurse, is the newest family member, having joined the team in 2012. She enjoys working with a variety of clients and is passionate about an individual holistic approach. As the newest team member, for new clients she is offering an additional 30-minute session to any 30, 60 or 90-minute massage. In May she will begin a new chapter of her career as an Ayurvedic Practitioner.

It’s Time to Get Started

Sue Smythe’s Fitness isn’t just a cozy fitness studio alongside Soquel Drive in Aptos; it’s a unique place of professional compassion and care. One of her clients, Mike, was experiencing excruciating pain from a serious back injury. After researching and interviewing numerous therapists, Mike and his daughter chose Sue Smythe’s Fitness. He started his sessions in his home because Mike couldn’t physically make it into the Studio. He now comes in regularly. As Mike shared, “I am so much stronger now. I can move and do most things without the pain I used to have. I always feel better after my workouts.”

In order to become the unique ‘you’ that you have always wanted to be, visit Sue Smythe Fitness and consult with her about making that ‘new you’ a reality. As George Elliot once said, “It’s never too late to become what you might have been.”
