On Saturday, February 28, the Scotts Valley Community Center will be the location for a reunion of past and present members of SVEF, including past and present presidents and board members as well as local dignitaries who have helped the foundation raise funds for 30 years.
“We are inviting the community we serve to join us in this day of celebration to honor those who have contributed to the success of our efforts,” said Derek Timm, current president for the foundation. “We are inviting teachers, parents, community members, donors and both current and past students to join us in celebrating what a community can accomplish when we work together to support our children.”
In the last five years alone, the Foundation has donated more than half a million dollars to keep the libraries open in all four schools, and to provide counseling services for students. In addition, SVEF has funded play equipment that meets current safety and accessibility requirements and most recently teacher training in GLAD, a language rich academic program that integrates curriculum areas to engage student learning.
Currently the foundation raises monies through direct donor support and with its Christmas Tree Lot in December and the Mountain Charlie Challenge — a series of cycling rides through the Santa Cruz Mountain Range held each spring that range from 10 kilometers for beginners to 100 miles for weekend warriors. This year the Mountain Charlie Challenge will include a 5k run as well. To build to the point where it is today, SVEF has been holding fundraisers like these and others for the last 30 years.
SVEF would like to thank Bay Federal, Bruno’s BBQ, Elite Martial Arts, Globus New Media, I On Design, Mulhern & Gomes, Paul Locatelli, Romeo Packaging, Santa Cruz County Bank, The Arcangeli Family, Treasures Fine Jewelry and Wells Fargo for their sponsorship of this event.
