“Last year, with the help of our sponsors, we were able to raise more than $22,000 for local nonprofit Grind Out Hunger. This year our goal is to raise $30,000 for Santa Cruz Benefit Group who will then distribute funds to vital local organizations that either support people living with cancer, or fund important research,” said New Leaf Community Markets’ founder and President Scott Roseman. “The relationship that the Santa Cruz Cancer Benefit Group has forged with New Leaf Community Markets over the years has proven to be key to our yearly fund raising efforts. The opportunity to be the sole beneficiary of this year’s ‘Taste at the Tee’ tournament elevates this great relationship to new heights,” said SCCBG Board Member Terry Hardin.

Teen Kitchen Projects Supports Families with Healthy Meals

SCCBG added the Teen Kitchen Project as a beneficiary in 2013. This Santa Cruz nonprofit brings young people into the kitchen to learn to cook delicious and nourishing food. The meals they prepare are delivered free of charge to individuals and families in Santa Cruz County who are in crisis due to a life-threatening illness like cancer. The teens gain skills in cooking healthy food, learn about the impact of their food choices, and are offered an opportunity to build connections through community service. Since September 2012, this program has served over 16,000 meals to families in crisis due to illness, and teens have donated over 1,300 service hours.
