Pediatric cancer is the number one disease killer of children in the U.S. taking the lives of more children than asthma, AIDS, multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy combined. A lack of funding into new and improved therapies contributes to this sobering statistic.
Every day, 36 kids are diagnosed with cancer and seven children die. Cancer doesn’t discriminate, and Team G’s mission is motivated by the fact that combined funding for all 12 main types of childhood cancer from the National Cancer Institute accounts for less than 4 percent of the TOTAL annual budget. A portion of the funds raised is allocated to childhood cancer research with the help of the Children’s Oncology Group, which unites 7,500 experts in childhood cancer across the globe in the fight against childhood cancer. The remaining funds are directed to purchase Team G “Hope Totes” for newly diagnosed cancer parents, which include a childhood cancer guide, toiletries, hospital snacks, and other necessities. These totes are distributed throughout the top pediatric cancer hospitals in the nation in order to provide direct support to cancer parents and their families.
Team G Foundation is a national organization dedicated to supporting families fighting pediatric cancer and funding new and innovative treatments to ultimately cure childhood cancer. Team G was created when family, friends and the community came together after learning that 4-year old Gabriella was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma. Tianna, who lived in the same town, was also fighting rhabdomyasarcoma at 15 years old. She reached out to Gabriella after reading about her in the local paper. Their families came together and decided something more needed to be done to eradicate childhood cancer.
