Two Arrested for Highway 9 Murder

At 7 p.m. April 11, deputies were called to a report of a dead body down a hillside of Highway 9 near mile marker 3.56.

Detectives began investigating the death as suspicious.

The coroner’s unit determined the cause of death to be a gunshot and ruled the death a homicide. The victim was identified as Oliver Waterfall, 24, of San Jose.

Over the past two weeks, detectives have been conducting interviews and reviewing surveillance footage related to the case.


On April 26, after conducting interviews and reviewing surveillance footage, detectives arrested Dennis Novoa, 27, of San Jose and Diana Ornelas, 22, of Santa Clara for murder.

Waterfall knew Novoa and Ornelas, according to the Sheriff’s Office press release, adding, “The motive of the homicide is believed to be of a personal nature.”
