DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT:  On May 23rd, 2014 throughout the day members of the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team Gang Task Force conducted high saturation patrols throughout the City of Santa Cruz.

 

During these patrols GTF members investigated and arrested the following cases:

 

1)  100 block of Bixby Street at 3:00 pm members contacted wanted subjects Anthony Espudo and Catherine Lorenzo in an apartment.  There several known drug offenders were contacted.  Espudo and Lorenzo tried to hide, however were quickly arrested by GTF members.  Espudo had two felony and four misdemeanor bench warrants for his arrest.  Lorenzo had a felony bench warrant.  All from Santa Cruz County Superior Court.

 

2)  Canfield St. at San Lorenzo Blvd. at 3:30 pm two juveniles who have outstanding bench warrants fled from GTF members upon sight.  After an extensive foot pursuit, the 17 year old brother was apprehended inside of the Walgreen’s store, 201 Front St.  He was found in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.  He was booked for his outstanding felony warrant and drug possession.  The other brother escaped.

 

3)  Ocean St. at Coloma St. 5:30 pm GTF members stopped Brad Spini riding a bicycle for a Vehicle Code violation.  He is a known drug offender.  A search of his person located an illegal knife.  He was arrested for a felony weapon possession.

 

4)  East Levee under the Riverside Avenue Bridge 8:20 pm.  SCPD Officers were dispatched to a report of drug activity after a citizen observed a possible drug deal.  GTF members arrived immediately and detained three suspects, Victor Martinez, Rigoberto Rodriguez and Jose Baltazar-Mendoza nearby.  Martinez discarded drugs upon contact.  A search of their persons located several bindles of heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine.  A total of 15.6 grams of heroin, 5.2 grams of methamphetamine and 1.3 grams of cocaine were located.   Martinez also had a felony warrant from the department of Homeland Security for failure to appear for deportation.  All three were booked into the County Jail for possession of controlled substances for sales and conspiracy.
