Various Highways in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties–Overnight Bridge Deck Seal Begins

MONTEREY AND SANTA CRUZ COUNTIES – A bridge deck seal project at 13 bridge locations along Hwy. 1 and Hwy. 68 in Monterey County and Hwy. 1 and Hwy. 129 in Santa Cruz County will begin next Wednesday, April 9, closing a lane at the following locations:
MONTEREY COUNTY

5.     Hwy. 1       SB                   South Marina Overhead in Marina
6.     Hwy. 1       SB                   Lapis Spur Overhead near Marina/Castroville
7.     Hwy. 1       SB                   Pajaro River near Watsonville
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY
8.     Rte. 129 **             Hwy. 129/Hwy. 1 Separation in Watsonville
9.     Hwy. 1       SB                   Beach Rd. Undercrossing in Watsonville
10.  Hwy. 1       SB & NB          Struve Slough near Watsonville
11.  Hwy. 1       SB                   Larkin Valley Rd. Undercrossing near Aptos
12.  Hwy. 1       SB & NB          Bay Ave. Undercrossing near Soquel/Capitola
13.  Hwy. 1       SB & NB          Soquel Creek in Capitola

NB-Northbound Direction
Overnight roadwork hours will be from 8 pm to 7 am Sundays through Thursdays (Friday morning), *except for Location 1 (Hwy. 68 Fairgrounds Overcrossing), which can also have a daytime closure from 8 am to 4 pm. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on all locations **except for Location 1 and Location 8 (Hwy. 129/Hwy. 1 Separation) where one-way reversing traffic control will be in effect. Motorists may experience delays of 10-15 minutes. Electronic Message Boards will be activated to alert motorists.
The purpose of this project is deck preservation. This bridge work is expected to be complete mid-summer, 2014 weather permitting. The contractor for this $600,000 project is American Civil Constructors West Coast, Inc. of Benicia.
 
Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
