There has been a recent increase in vehicle theft and vehicle burglaries in the Pleasure Point and Opal Cliff areas of Santa Cruz County. The thieves are targeting unlocked vehicles and taking valuable property located inside such as cellphones and credit cards. On other occasions the thieves are finding the ignition keys left by the owner and taking the vehicle. The Santa Cruz County vehicle theft taskforce (SCARE) asks that motorists lock their vehicles and ensure the ignition keys are secured.
