Listening to our youth speak out on the topic “Making A Difference” gave hope to all who listened. Original speeches were written and recited by the students from Aptos & Soquel High Schools. These young humans are making a difference! As a Rotary community, we clearly saw and heard that our future is bright.
The Capitola Aptos Rotary Club hosted the local area speech contest on Thursday, February 15. The Rotary Clubs of District 5170 sponsored the Richard D. King Annual Youth Speech Contest with three goals in mind.
- To increase the personal knowledge and awareness of the importance of being able to speak effectively before a group.
- To increase public knowledge of what Rotary is and does throughout the world, especially among young people.
- To increase participation in the contest and to provide all high school contestants an opportunity to win prizes as top speaker
High school students from Aptos and Soquel competed against each other for monetary awards. Students were judged on delivery, originality and content. First Place Winners will participate in one of four regional semi- finals between February 16 – April 13. Winners will progress on to the Regional and District levels.
