Learn about the Ocean, Share what you Learn – Apply Now!
SANTA CRUZ, CA – The Ocean does a lot for us, but what can you do for the ocean?
What if you could inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to help protect our ocean and its inhabitants? What if you could be the gateway to a first experience with marine life, or the spark that inspires an awe of the seas?
The Seymour Marine Discovery Center at Long Marine Lab in Santa Cruz can help you make your dreams a reality with our 2015 Docent training program. You will receive hands-on training to work with the public in marine science and conservation. Training begins January 7th and runs through March 28, 2015. Class meetings every Wednesday evening from 6:00-9:00 PM and 9:00-4:00 PM Saturdays.
Seymour Center Docents lead tours to the marine mammal overlook to see the dolphins, help visitors handle our seawater animals safely, including the sharks in our shark touch tank, and interpret our exhibits and aquaria.
Fill out an application today. Space is limited! Applications are due December 15, 2014. All appropriate applicants will be interviewed prior to the training, in order to best serve you and your passion for the ocean. All Docent applicants must be 18 years or older, and commit to one 4-hour shift every other week for 1 year. No experience is necessary. We are especially eager to recruit volunteers fluent in Spanish.
