SOQUEL – There is currently a vacancy on the Board of Directors of the Soquel Creek Water District (SqCWD). At their December 15, 2015, regular meeting the SqCWD Board of Directors voted to open the position to interested candidates and fill the position by appointment.
The position to be filled is a 4-year term ending December 2018. The seat will go to election in November 2016, for the final two years of the term.
Any interested person who is a resident within the SqCWD service area and a registered voter is eligible to apply. The application period opens December 16, 2015, and closes January 7, 2016. Eligible candidates will be interviewed by the SqCWD Board of Directors at a special board meeting to be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

Soquel Creek Water District (SqCWD) provides water service, solely from local groundwater resources, to a 14-square mile service area with a population of approximately 38,000 customers through 14,100 connections in Capitola, Aptos, La Selva Beach, Opal Cliffs, Rio Del Mar, Seascape, and Soquel.. Ninety percent of the customer base is residential. SqCWD manages an annual operating budget of $15.9 million (2015-16 adopted budget). The current Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget is $13.6 million. The District is currently in a Stage 3 Water Shortage, which triggered an emergency rate structure, and is currently exploring long-term, supplemental supply options. SqCWD has a dedicated staff of forty-five regular, full and part-time staff. The District is managed by a General Manager, appointed by the Board of Directors.
