WATSONVILLE — The Pajaro Valley Unified School District has announced the 23 members of its new Sustainable Schools Advisory committee, a group that will help plan the future of local schools as student enrollment drops.
About 60 parents, school employees and community members applied to join the committee, according to the district. From that group, 23 people were chosen to represent different parts of the district and different viewpoints. The group will be led by retired judge John S. Salazar, who will act as an independent facilitator.
The committee is larger than originally planned. Earlier this year, the district said it would have about 19 voting members. But after a final review, the district made changes to make sure all groups and areas were properly represented.
One key change was adding a charter school representative, which had been left out at first. To make room, some members were shifted into new roles, and additional members were added where needed. The district said no one who was originally selected was removed.
Another change ensured that all seven trustee areas in the district have at least two representatives. This helps make sure every part of the community has a voice.
