Cabrillo College announces that it will host a public forum to provide updates on the Cabrillo and UCSC student housing project on Wednesday, January 29th from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Cabrillo College Horticulture Center on the Aptos Campus, 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos. The Santa Cruz County community is invited to this event and refreshments will be served. In December 2024, Cabrillo College mailed postcards regarding this event, to all residents and businesses located within a two-mile radius of Cabrillo College.
During the event, Cabrillo and housing developer representatives will provide updates on the housing design, room layouts, amenities, landscaping, transportation, and the project schedule.
The Cabrillo and UCSC 624-bed student housing project is funded by a state grant, and will be located on Cabrillo’s lower campus, off of Cabrillo College Drive. The project will be a multi-story building that will include a childcare facility for residents, and 60% of beds will be for Cabrillo students, while 40% of beds will be for UCSC students.
As a requirement for grant eligibility, Cabrillo College students will be paying at a rate that is at or below the state’s threshold for affordable rent. In addition to providing much needed affordable housing for Cabrillo students, the project will help alleviate the affordable housing crisis in Santa Cruz County. The proposed renderings will feature study spaces, a student promenade with dining and gathering places, and a rooftop garden.
