Calles Libres will turn streets around Callaghan Park and Brennan Street into a car-free space for a free Día de los Muertos celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1.
The event will include biking, art, wellness activities, family games, food vendors, music and cultural performances. Activities include a bike rodeo, repair
and safety services, Zumba, yoga, face painting and a nature scavenger hunt.
A community altar and ofrenda will offer storytelling and remembrance activities. Visitors may bring photographs, marigolds or other meaningful items to honor loved ones and pets, or help create and decorate community altars.
Performers scheduled throughout the afternoon include Baile Folklórico Los Colibrí, Los Cocuyos, El Sistema Mariachi, Estrellas de Esperanza, Vintage Point and La Familia. A Whitehawk blessing is planned for 3:30 p.m.
“Calles Libres is a gift from and for the community,” said Kymberly Lacrosse, executive director of Growing Greatness. “It’s a chance to honor our roots while building healthier, more connected futures together.”
