Despite the difficulties of Covid and having to shut down several times, Curves-Aptos owner Annette Hunt is still on a mission to help women to take care of themselves virtually and in-club.

Curves Aptos staff and members participates in an Alzheimer’s Association fundraiser.

She has been a dance aerobics instructor for six years, a swim coach, a dietitian and now a personal and group fitness coach at Curves in Aptos for three years. Perseverance may be her middle name.

Members are comfortable with their commitment to working out at Curves-Aptos because they know exercise is a vital part of staying healthy during these times. They appreciate the extra attention to remaining open as a clean, safe, protected space to work out with plenty of air flow, light, space, and continuous sanitizing of the equipment.

“The pandemic has forced us to stay creative in motivating our members both in-club and virtually, and to keep their bodies strong for joint health, flexibility and overall well-being,” Annette said.

On top of the in-person experience, Curves-Aptos offers virtual workouts that are 10-30 minutes long, focusing on a full-body workout every time.

Annette says the online program has added some unexpected dividends. In addition to her local clients, she has expanded globally with virtual members in other areas of California, New York, Hawaii and Australia!

Curves now offers health and wellness classes that Annette teaches virtually once a week for a small-group instruction. These classes are focused on balance & posture, strengthening your pelvic floor and stretch and stress management.

“Our specialty classes are six weeks long and our members have really seen great improvement in their core and pelvic floor strength,” according to Annette.

Personal coaching is and has always been the key critical benefit that Curves has to offer its members to stay the course toward their goals of their routine and desire to get stronger, enjoy increased stamina and achieve weight loss.

Enthusiastic about workouts at Curves Aptos

“Walking for your health is good, but it’s just not enough,” says Annette, “one needs to work on core strength for stability, rotation and prevention and upper body strength to build strong bones, support brain health and memory, and increase energy levels. Strength training also enhances relaxation and sleep quality, reduces the risk of chronic diseases and pain and, finally, it lifts your spirits. And who doesn’t need that nowadays?”

Even during the pandemic, Curves Aptos has continued to support our local community by participating in our local Santa Cruz Volunteer Center “Stars Program,’’ helping more than 400 families and raising more than $400 plus a huge truckload of gifts. Also, their club raised more than $2,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association as well as contributed more than 15,000 meals to Second Harvest Food Bank.

“I’m so proud of the generosity of ALL my members by helping keep our community strong through their monetary, gift and food donations. Our members are simply the best and so supportive of the community they live in!” Annette said.

The beginning of the year is a good time to set your health and exercise goals for the year and now is a good time to call Curves to set up an appointment for a free consultation. You will be glad you did!
