Devery awarded J. Witmer Scholarship

scholarship_ashley-deveryIt was announced that Ashley Devery, Watsonville Native and Oregon State Student, was awarded Agri-Culture’s 2016 Jeannie Witmer Memorial Scholarship. The award is for a student (past or present) who has participated in the California High School Rodeo Association, District 4, or a California 4-H Horse program within the greater Bay Area.

Ashley recently graduated from Aptos High School and has started her first year at Oregon State where she will work toward a degree in Agricultural Business. After graduation she plans to move back to our area and work in management of an agricultural organization.

Ashley participated as an active member in the Corralitos 4-H horse program from 2007-2008. She has participated in the California Scholarship Federation. Ashley has dedicated a large portion of her life to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. She has participated in the 24-hour walk each of the past 12 years.

In High School, Ashley was voted “Most Improved Player” during her junior volleyball season, and even received a scholarship for her solid performance on the court.


Agri-Culture President Steve Bontadelli stated, “There were good applicants this year, I wish we could have given each of them a scholarship.” Bontadelli further stated, “Ashley is an outstanding individual.” Bontadelli further stated, “She is a well-rounded person who has participated in several organization including 4-H and FFA. She will be a great addition to our agriculture community when she returns from college.”
