A Temporary Town Comes To The Beaches Of Aptos
Photos by Noel Smith
An unexpected gift from el Niño covers Rio Del Mar Beach State Beach — Driftwood! Thousands of logs and branches that were carried by the runoff down the San Lorenzo River, Soquel Creek, Aptos Creek and dozens of other waterways by the winter storms have been turned into a temporary town. It has windows, benches, hallways, even a flagpole and can be just about anything from a castle to a teepee depending on your imagination. Stop by on your way to the magical disappearing cement ship and enjoy the day in Driftwoodville while it lasts.
