Coastal Commission Online Meeting: Brodifacoum Bait Plans
Local residents can comment on a proposal to the California Coastal Commission from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife staff to use helicopters to drop bait with a toxic chemical, Brodifacoum, to kill invasive house mice on the South Farallon Islands.
This would be done over seven weeks in November or December “to minimize non-target impacts,” agency staff explained.
Trapping mice or moving burrowing owls to reduce the stress on seabird populations were considered and found not feasible.
The meeting will be virtual. To read the agenda item, #11, see www.coastal.ca.gov/meetings/agenda/#/2021/12
