Santa Cruz Performing Arts presents this perennial favorite with music by Stephen Schwartz of “Pippin” and “Wicked” fame and with an inspired book by John-Michael Tebelak is produced and directed by Arindam Krishna Das featuring a Spellbinding cast of local luminaries ages 11-68.
Godspell originally opened off Broadway on May 17, 1971, and has played in various touring companies and revivals many times since, including a 2011 revival that played on Broadway from October 13, 2011, to June 24, 2012.
The musical’s structure is presenting a series of the parables of Jesus. Based primarily on the Gospel of Matthew with three of the featured parables from the Gospel of Luke. The parables are combined with modern music and with lyrics mostly from traditional hymns. The passion of Christ is shown briefly at the end of the musical.

Evening Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Closing Performance is Sunday Matinee Dec. 14 at 2 p.m.
