Volunteer Visitors offer support to people facing the end of life. They may simply
extend a hand to hold or help with practical tasks like running errands, light meal preparation, light
touch massage, and other tasks. They often give caregivers and family members a needed break.
Spring recruitment starts with five informational gatherings in February at local cafes in Watsonville,
Aptos and Santa Cruz. Training will begin on March 23rd at HSCC with a 30 hour training that covers
topics including: hospice philosophy, mindfulness education, understanding grief, family dynamics, and
the importance of self-care.
Bi-lingual volunteers, veterans wanting to serve other military veterans, massage therapists, music
therapists and pet companions are especially needed.
