Canine Behaviorist Trish King Presents Two Seminars
Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter (SCCAS) hosts two new seminars with renowned canine behaviorist Trish King on August 22 and September 26
Workshop 1, August 22, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Living with a Dog Pack
When you own more than one dog, you own a dog pack and all the complications that go along with a pack. It can be rewarding and interesting, or it can be frustrating or even dangerous, depending on you and your mix of dogs. This workshop will address how to choose a second or third dog, how to manage for maximum cooperation, and what to do if problems develop and your dogs don’t get along.
Workshop 2, September 26, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Adolescents and Age
Location: SC County Health Services Administration Bldg, Basement Auditorium, 1080 Emeline, Santa Cruz
People often think that once a puppy is house trained, their problems are over! Not quite. The most challenging time of a dog’s life is adolescence, just as it is with humans. This is when they need structure and boundaries, and it’s also when they need more exercise and stimulation than they ever will in the future. The two can be compatible, if handled correctly. This workshop will cover what adolescents need and how to survive until they reach peaceful adulthood. We will also discuss the aging dog and the problems that arise as a dog gets older. Dogs change as they age, their senses deteriorate, they become confused, and they have different physical needs. We’ll discuss what to expect and how to prepare.

Trish King, internationally renowned canine behaviorist, established the Canine Behavior Academy and leads seminars, webinars, and workshops on dog behavior, canine management, temperament assessment, and the handling of difficult dogs. She is the author of “Parenting Your Dog” (TFH Publications) and writes articles on dog behavior for numerous publications.
