Over the next few weeks, PG&E will be using helicopters to conduct routine safety inspections along its gas transmission pipelines in the Central Coast and South Bay. Parts of Monterey, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara counties will be included.
The survey is done using advanced LiDAR technology that can detect natural gas leaks and collect data to help PG&E monitor its infrastructure and ensure the safety and reliability of its systems.
PG&E wants the public to know it is only using the helicopters to survey infrastructure and assets that belong to PG&E.
Maps show the areas helicopter flights may occur.
