SANTA CRUZ – The Santa Cruz Community Farmers’ Market will begin accepting credit and debit card access over the years as people are increasingly using plastic to make the majority of their purchases. While hosting credit/debit transactions at the markets adds some administrative footwork for the market association, making purchasing easy for the customers is absolutely in the best interest of the farmers and food artisans who earn a living from market sales.
Beginning in January, the Downtown, Live Oak and Westside Markets will swipe credit/debit cards at the information tables at each market. Similar to the existing EBT system of wooden tokens, take the credit/debit system will involve plastic tokens valid to purchase any product at the markets.
So if you don’t have cash, don’t worry. We can take care of it at the Markets from here on out.
