You’ve given the art supplies, now PVAC would like to exhibit the best of the best artwork from The Pajaro Valley Unified School District at the government center in Watsonville. PVAC is now sponsoring the annual Student Art Show at the government center in downtown Watsonville. The new show will go up in Apriland remain on display for an entire year. PVUSD and the County Office of Education funded last year’s show, but this year, there is not enough money to go around. So, we ask you to support us in our efforts to showcase this wonderful work. Many of you were generous contributors in November to an effort to collect art and music supplies for the PVUSD Schools, spearheaded by volunteers from PVAC. That project was extremely successful. We delivered truckloads of art materials and musical instruments to Amesti Elementary School in Watsonville, where it was given free of charge to a crowd of astounded and grateful teachers from the district. Here’s a sample of what we heard from teachers:
“I just won the lottery.”, “I feel so loved and supported.”, “This must be what it is like to be a millionaire, just take what you want!”, “This is going to make all the difference”, “I can’t believe this.”
As organizers of that event we continue to think about how to further strengthen the arts curriculum in PVUSD, and to keep an ongoing partnership with the District. Now there is another specific need. The children have made so much art work with the donated supplies that they plan to greatly expand their annual Student Art Show. We are looking for funds to assist with the costs of framing and displaying pieces, as well as purchasing additional reusable frames. The government building in downtown Watsonville is already designated for the display. If each person donates a little bit, we can, as we have already seen, have a huge impact.
