Take Aways: Art to Go!

January 13 – February 14, 2016

TakeAways_Susanna-Waddell Take Aways Times Publishing Group Inc tpgonlinedaily.comWe invite you to join us for our first exhibition of 2016, Take Aways: Art to Go! This invitational annual exhibit features sixty-five of the county’s most notable artists. As a fundraising event these artists are presenting works that fit into many budgets, with the majority of pieces priced at under $300. In this wildly popular show everyone benefits; you take home fabulous art the day of your purchase, the artists and Pajaro Valley Arts get their normal commissions, and new art comes into the gallery everyday!

The artists are well known from numerous exhibitions and teaching experiences in Santa Cruz County and beyond. Others are known from Open Studios, and all artists bring years of expertise and practice in their submissions. The pieces of art include sculpture, fiber, encaustic (wax), painting, printing, drawing, photography, mixed media, ceramic, jewelry, and glasswork. Diversity is one of many descriptions that fit this remarkable exhibition.

We encourage you to visit and “Take Away” some beautiful art. In addition, several donated pieces will be part of a raffle drawing during the closing reception on February 14, 2-4 p.m.

PVAC Volunteers

What does it take to put on an exhibit like Take Aways? When you walk into the gallery you will see hundreds of pieces of fabulous art, beautifully hung, meticulously labeled and inventoried. Our volunteer curators spent three months in the planning process.

Our volunteer Gallery Committee met the 60+ artists on a Sunday afternoon for three hours to check in the work. Three committee members spent eight hours deciding where the groupings would be placed. Fifteen people worked for two days to hang the show.

Two more days were spent painting pedestals, placing three-dimensional pieces, setting the lights, and placing labels.

In the background, Sharon and Norma, our two dedicated staff members, set up the bookkeeping, documented the pieces, and generated the labels. Hedwig, our exhibit coordinator made sure the event was publicized and all the labels were made to order.

This beautiful union of staff, volunteers, and artists was orchestrated by the curators of the show. We give our deepest thanks to curators Jane Gregorius, Susanna Waddell, Sandy Haven, and Judy Cooper; and all the members of the Gallery Committee and staff that made this show possible!

Thank You PVA Members And Donors!

We send out a huge thank you to all of our generous members and donors for supporting us through the end-of-the-year fund drive, and through Santa Cruz Gives.
