Big Brothers Big Sisters Sailed to Success
SANTA CRUZ – The Santa Cruz Yacht Club hosted the 23rd Annual Day on the Monterey Bay Regatta on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa Cruz County. Over $45K was raised to create and support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentoring matches of adult volunteers to youth in Santa Cruz County.
The Day on the Bay Regatta was a great success, thanks to the 300+ participants ranging from local volunteers to company CEO’s. Kiss Catering provided the dinner, Island Breeze brought the music, and the sailors and participants brought the party!
The sail began at 1pm and onshore activities included a silent auction and awarding of raffle prizes. This year’s race winners were Skip Ely on Elyxir, Tyler Kuraszculd on Spitfire, Van Tunstal on Wind Walker and Barry Keeler on Sailing Pair of Dice.
Marie Cubillas, Big Brothers Big Sisters Executive Director, was thrilled with the support and enthusiasm for the event. “A big thank you to each and every participant and sponsor that helped raise critical funds to support our youth mentoring programs,” says Cubillas. “Together you are helping change the way children grow up in Santa Cruz County.”
This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa Cruz County also celebrated its 32nd anniversary providing mentoring services to children in the county. Since 1982, the agency has served more than 5,000 children. For more information or to volunteer, please visit www.santacruzmentor.org.
