On Aug. 14, Santa Cruz Police detectives arrested Sergio Alvarez-Lopez, 24, and Jonathan Dominguez-Martinez, 22, in connection with a July 28 fatal drive-by shooting on the Santa Cruz Westside.
Both suspects were booked at the Santa Cruz County Jail for homicide and related charges.
Alvarez-Lopez lives in Santa Cruz and Dominguez-Martinez is a county resident.
The victim, a 28-year-old man and a county resident, is not being identified until his relatives are notified by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff-Coroner, Santa Cruz Police said.
At 1:14 p.m. July 28, police were dispatched to a shooting on busy Mission Street, north of Swift Street.
When officers and medics arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle. Medics worked on the man, then took him to Dominican Hospital.
The man died at the hospital.
Parts of Mission Street were closed and traffic diverted for the investigation, which concluded the shooting actually occurred at the intersection of Mission Street and Fair Avenue.
Shortly after the shooting, police called for a countywide “Be-On-The-Lookout” for a vehicle suspected to be involved.
Search warrants were served at several locations and evidence collected for the investigation, police said.
