Saturday September 10, Pinto Lake County Park

The Second Annual Walk 4 Water is to benefit Santa Cruz al Salvador in its work with the community of El Pilar to protect the cleanliness of their water. Last year Walk 4 Water raised more than $10,000 to bring clean water to El Pilar, a community in rural El Salvador. Through discussions with the people of this community, we learned that the next step in their need to have clean water is to help them build composting toilets.
According to inhabitat.com, 40% of the people in the world do not have access to toilets; this includes the 81 families of the El Pilar region of the Department of La Libertad in El Salvador. Our goal for 2016’s Walk 4 Water is to raise $15,000 to build composting toilets for as many of these families as possible and train the people in their use and maintenance.
The use of composting toilets can save countless lives in developing countries. More people die from poor sanitation than from the measles, malaria and HIV/AIDS combined. As many as 7,500 die daily due to waterborne illnesses and 5000 of those are children under the age of five.
