Move over Picasso! The Santa Cruz County Fair Foundation and Agricultural History Project has revealed the winner of the 2025 Sparky’s Holiday Lights ‘Youth Art in Lights’ contest!
The winner is 7-year-old Allyson (last name withheld by parents), a very talented student from Ohlone Elementary School in Watsonville.
Her enchanting artwork features a delightful blue penguin, adorned with a pink heart and holding a festive candy cane! It truly captures the essence of joy and creativity that embodies the Santa Cruz County community.
The group gave a special thank you to their designer, Dave, who skillfully transformed Allyson’s vision into a stunning metal creation. And thank you to the “wrap stars” — whose collaborative efforts brought her artwork to life in a spectacular display of lights.
“We hope Allyson’s creativity inspires other young artists, as it has inspired us,” said Jeanie Kegebein of the SCFF.
The “Youth Art in Lights” contest is open to kids aged 5-12. Young artists submit a drawing of a holiday-themed object or scene. The Holiday Lights Committee selects a winner… and that drawing is brought to life in lights and becomes one of the colorful displays in Sparky’s Holiday Lights.
