When you pay for your movie ticket, get your Xtra Large popcorn and drink and settle yourself in one of those marvelously comfortable brand new theater seats with the built-in cup holders, you know you will be coming back for more. The distance between the seats (seatback to seatback) has been increased from a standard 42 inches to 50 inches. No more having to stand up to let people by or worrying about having your toes stepped on; once you sit … you’re set!
Ike Jablon Director of Marketing & Special Events for Nickelodeon Theatres gave us a preview of some of the new features that are now installed. The number of seats in the large theater has been decreased from the old (and kind of crowded) 461 seats to a new and roomy capacity of 241 with spaces in mid-auditorium (no longer stuck in the back) for those who are in wheel chairs. Another innovation is… closed captioning anywhere you are sitting! The unit works on a WiFi connection, is battery operated and fits in your seat’s cup holder!
Another innovation concerns the movie itself. No longer are there reels and reels of film that require changeovers and rewinding or large platters of film spinning round and round. A movie now exists as a digital recording on a hard drive. Whether black and white or color in 2D or 3D with all the marvelous sound that accompanies the images, that is all there is… it’s just recorded electronic signals. While the media is simple, the projection system is large and expensive. Many small theaters are finding it difficult to switch because of the cost.
Aptos Cinema has the latest in projection equipment and now has some of the most comfortable seating you can find in the county. Another benefit for Aptos, both the large and small theaters of the Aptos Cinema are available for public and private meetings and presentations. Call Ike Jablon at 345-1950 for more information. See you at the movies!
