Effective at 7:00 p.m. Thursday March 9, the Cabrillo College Aptos Campus (6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos) will be an emergency evacuation shelter for individuals who have been asked to leave their homes because of local flood evacuation orders and warnings.
The College’s Gymnasium in the 1100 Building is serving as the main location for congregation and check-in. The College will have approximately 100 cots for sleeping, space for family rest and relaxation, food, drinks, and other amenities available for those dislocated by potential flooding. Pets are allowed if kept in carriers.
Other campus areas available include:
- Parking Lot K for RV and Trailer parking (capacity: approx. 250 spaces, no hookups)
- Shower facilities at the College’s Gymnasium
- Laundry facilities
The shelter will be open from 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 9 until further notice.
Donations
Individuals interested in donating to assist during the emergency can consider bringing items like new socks, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and blankets to the Gymnasium. More importantly, financial donations to the American Red Cross at their website allow for targeted use by relief agencies.
Volunteers
Individuals interested in volunteering to help during the emergency should sign up through the Volunteer Center link on the County website. Volunteers might be asked to help check-in individuals, escort individuals or material to and from other campus buildings, and serve as a monitor for congregate sites.
