Pajaro Dunes Geological Hazard Abatement District
Persons interested in running for the vacant seat on the Pajaro Dunes Geological Hazard Abatement District on the June 2, 2015 Special Election ballot may file candidate papers with the Santa Cruz County Elections Department beginning Monday, February 9.
Filing for the district seat ends at 5 p.m. Friday, March 6. Candidate filing documents are available at the Santa Cruz County Clerk/Elections Department located at 701 Ocean Street, Room 210, in Santa Cruz, phone 831-454-2060. The candidate must either pick up all forms in person or the candidate’s representative must present a letter of specific authorization, signed by the candidate.
A person is eligible to be elected or appointed to the special district board if that person is an owner of real property in the district. (Public Resources Code §§26567, 26583) Only landowners in the Pajaro Dunes Geological Hazard Abatement District are allowed to vote in the district’s special vacancy election on June 2.
Appointment to the elective office will be made as prescribed by law in the event that there are no nominees or only one person files for the office.
If candidates want to file a 200-word Candidate’s Statement of Qualifications to be published in the Voter’s Information Pamphlet at the candidate’s expense, the statement must be filed at the same time the candidates file their Declaration of Candidacy.
Because there are strict rules and laws governing candidate filing, interested persons are encouraged to contact the County Elections Department to obtain a “Candidate’s Handbook” and other assistance to ensure all filing obligations are met.
