Cheryl Brightfield of Capitola concluded a successful run with the United States Youth National Team at the 2025 International Surf Rescue Challenge in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, securing several top finishes in the challenging surf conditions.
Brightfield, a member of the 16-athlete U.S. Lifesaving Association (USLA) team, competed in the three-day event held at Mount Maunganui Beach from Nov. 27 to 30.
Her performance was highlighted by two third-place finishes in the mixed board relay events. She also contributed to the youth female board relay team, which earned a fourth-place finish.
Individually, Brightfield achieved a sixth-place result in the youth female individual race, a key points earner for the U.S. squad.
The U.S. Youth National Team ultimately finished fourth overall among 11 nations competing in the U19 division.
