Picasso, a three-year-old Silky Terrier, will put his painting aside to liven up your life and love you silly! There’s no way to remain somber, sad, or lonely when this little guy is by your side. You’ll be too busy smiling along with him. Unfortunately, Picasso’s previous owners surrendered him due to lack of time, saying he needed more than they could give. Apparently he really enjoys spending time with his people, can’t blame a dog for that right? Picasso has been getting plenty of attention from staff, volunteers, and visitors but it’s about time that this colorful character finds himself a life-long home of his own.
Do you have the energy to take this boy on a daily trot to the park or a brisk beach walk? Do you have the time to snuggle and cuddle on the bed or couch nightly? From what we’ve seen, if the answer is yes to both of these questions you have what Picasso needs. He doesn’t need a large yard or a huge house and he doesn’t need to be by your side every second of every day—although I’m sure he wouldn’t say no to either—he just needs some daily exercise, quality snuggle time and someone to love who will love him back unconditionally.
We think he would be a great only-dog or addition to a multi-dog family. He is learning how to walk nicely on the leash. As is normal for his breed, Picasso is an excellent watchdog and will let you know if any funny business is taking place outside. However, when visitors enter he is quick to put on a smile and wagging tail to greet them. Picasso has done well with everyone he’s met including older children. We don’t recommend dogs to homes with infant or toddler age children due to hair pulling that can lead to fearful behavior.
This breed is considered non-shedding but is prone to tangles and mats and need daily brushing and periodic trips to the groomer for trims. Picasso is a little over 15 lbs. He’s a little big for a lap dog but is still very portable. Look at Picasso on our Facebook! www.facebook.com/SantaCruzSPCA
